Berry Green Dream Smoothie is filled with so much goodness in one delicious glass!
This Berry Green Dream Smoothie is fab -- I love it, and it's dreamy. Dreamy? Yes, dreamy.
It's dreamy because it's filled with so.much.goodness.
Berries, kale, and chia seeds all in one wonderful drink! These are the types of things that make my world go round. Getting in 2 servings of berries and 3 cups of kale plus 15g of fiber before 8am is like a dream come true. See? Dreamy.
And if you want extra protein, you can always add a little protein powder.
On top of all that, it's a smoothie anyone can drink. It's dairy-free, gluten-free, nut-free, and has no added sugar. You also don't have to go out and get any special powder (unless you want to!) to make a high-protein allergy-friendly smoothie.
Ye-yah!!
I will give you a little tip: don't taste it until you've let it all blend together for a few minutes. It needs a chance to really mix together to become delicious. Trust me.
Since I'm in such a good mood about my awesome smoothie, here's another tip: you can drink this immediately for a smoothie-like consistency {read: thinner} or let it sit for a little bit and it gets nice & thick for a smoothie bowl thanks to the chia seeds gelatinizing powers. It turns into this mixture that is better enjoyed with a spoon.
I don't know which version I like better; they're both perfect.
This recipe serves two, and they're pretty big servings -- about 2.5/3 cups per serving.
Something else to note is that it is a meal-sized portion; I love this for breakfast. It keeps me full for hours.
As for size and consistency, add more ice and/or water to get it to your desired consistency if necessary. Or just leave out the ice -- you'll have a thicker drink that isn't as cold. I find that appealing on a cold morning so I usually leave out the ice in the winter.
In the summer months, I'll freeze my fruit before making the smoothies, but you don't need to with this one.
One last tip: use lacinato kale in here. It blends in there almost completely undetectable. I can't vouch for the green leafy kale.
To be honest, most smoothies I've made with green kale taste a little bit like kale.
The Berry Green Dream Smoothie does not taste like kale thanks to the lighter, less overwhelming flavor of the lacinato kale {otherwise known as dinosaur kale, Tuscan kale, or black kale; i.e. my new favorite kale}.
