Soaking strawberries in vodka and covering them with white chocolate make for a festive white chocolate-covered strawberries for the over-21 crowd
These are a combination of two things I saw on Pinterest...White chocolate dipped strawberries sprinkled with blue sugar for a patriotic dessert + Vodka soaked strawberries
Oh how happy I am that I decided to combine the two!
I did make a little change.
Most of the "drunk" strawberries, if you will, were soaked in whipped cream or chocolate vodka. I'm sorry, but that sounds disgusting to me. So I used regular vodka. I think lemon or orange-flavored vodka would be good, too.
I brought these to a friend's house last night and everyone enjoyed them.
They are perfect for a 4th of July party or skip the blue sprinkles and serve them as fun dessert after the 4th.
Soak these for a minimum of 4 hours and up to 3 days.
The longer you soak them, the better they are in my opinion. However, you must refrigerate these!!!
Do not leave them out at room temperature or they will turn an unappetizing color, get soft, and have an overly-vodka taste.
I soaked mine for three days, and while you can definitely taste the vodka, it wasn't like I was just eating vodka. The strawberry flavor definitely comes through.
Another bonus for soaking the strawberries for a longer time? You get this amazing fresh/real strawberry-flavored vodka. Add club soda & a lemon {or maybe even a fresh strawberry} and you have a fruit & fun flavorful summertime drink.
I don't recommend using cheap vodka. Use a vodka that you'd use if you were to drink a vodka & water or soda. You are going to taste the vodka, so you don't want it to taste like you soaked your strawberries in rubbing alcohol.
Some other tips: use good white chocolate chips. I used Ghiradelli, and they melted beautifully. You also need to make sure you set your microwave on 50% power when melting the chips. Otherwise, they will burn and crystalize and just not work.
And don't forget to pat the strawberries dry after straining off the vodka. The white chocolate won't stick to a wet strawberry. Don't learn this the hard way; just pat them dry.
Last but not least, if you serve these at a party with kids make sure you label these as the 21-Year Old & Up Strawberries and make some regular {non-soaked} strawberries for the little ones.
Oh, and these things are potent, so be careful.
Festive Drunk Strawberries
Ingredients
- 1 pint strawberries
- 1.5-2 cups vodka
- โ cup white chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil {optional}
- 2 tablespoon blue sprinkles
Instructions
- Wash the strawberries really well. Trim the tops if desired. Put in a glass or plastic container and cover with vodka.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 24 hours {the longer the better}.
- Make sure to turn the strawberries about halfway through "marinating" time.
- When ready to coat the strawberries, line a strainer with paper towels and sit above a bowl or container. Drain strawberries and strain vodka. Reserve vodka for another use {keep covered in refrigerator}.
- Make sure strawberries are completely dry, so blot with extra paper towels if necessary {the white chocolate won't stick to a wet strawberry}.
- Put the white chocolate chips and oil in a microwave safe bowl. Microwave on 50% power for 1 minute. Stir and microwave for another 30 seconds on 50% power. Stir until smooth. If needed, microwave in 15 second increments on 50% power until melted.
- Dip strawberries in melted white chocolate. Sprinkle blue sprinkles on the bottoms of the white chocolate to make the red, white, and blue layers on the strawberries. Sit on a wax paper lined plate to set.
- Repeat with remaining strawberries. Refrigerate until hardened {about 10 minutes}. Best served soon after taking them out of the refrigerator. Enjoy {in moderation, of course}!
- Keep covered in the refrigerator.
