Festive, boozy Mardi Gras Smoothies are a great on-the-go option for getting in your fruits & veggies while watching the parades roll by
It's that time of year! It's Mardi Gras time!
Even if you don't live in a city with Mardi Gras, you can still celebrate with these festive smoothies. [Or with a ton of my other Mardi Gras recipes]
I am seriously giddy with how adorable these things turned out. I mean, how cute are they?!
I decided to start a week of Mardi Gras recipes with a beverage, and since Mardi Gras is a very festive holiday, these smoothies are absolutely perfect!
I know, I know. It's just a smoothie. But let's talk about why you need to make this smoothie.
First, during Mardi Gras, it gets a little tough to squeeze in the recommended amount of daily fruits and veggies. Boozy beverages and not-so-healthy food replace regular meals, which is why this smoothie is the answer to your "what to drink/eat while strolling the streets catching beads" question. [For another tasty Mardi Gras smoothie, try this King Cake Smoothie!]
I packed in the produce with the smoothie. You've got blueberries, raspberries (or strawberries), kiwis, spinach, banana, and pineapple.
There's also some turmeric in there to enhance the gold color, but you can't taste it {just don't add more than the suggested amount in the recipe}. Turmeric is a potent anti-inflammatory agent, which you will need considering you will probably not be eating your healthiest for the next few days...
But don't worry; I did not skimp on the booze. However, if you aren't in the mood to imbibe or are serving these to an under-21 crowd, just substitute an equal amount of water for the vodka.
These take a few extra minutes of time to make because you make them in layers, but they are worth every extra second. They are just so fun!
You don't have to freeze the fruit before you make these, but I find the texture is better when the fruit has been pre-frozen.
- First, you'll make the gold layer. Transfer to a glass and stick in the freezer.
- Then, make the green layer... don't skimp on the spinach! You need it for that vibrant green + you need the extra veggies. And you can't taste it! You really really can't!
- For the last layer, you'll blend together blueberries with a few raspberries or strawberries to make purple.
Then pour it in layers in 3 glasses or to-go cups, and go enjoy the parade!
Adorable, right?! You're perfect on-the-go, festive, full of healthy produce + protein {from the Greek yogurt}, boozy {optional} drink!
In case you're curious, each layer is delish and they taste great all mixed together too.
P.S. I highly suggest making these purple green and gold boozy cupcakes while you're at it. Or try the mini king cakes, too!

And I'm giddy to try these!!! Seriously, this is brilliant with all the colors of Mardi Gras. My kids will adore! But I love the over 21 trick...and good point that smoothies are needed to not overindulge in the over 21 stuff. Love the tumeric tip too! (:
Meme says
Thanks Serena! These are a staple in my diet come Mardi Gras season -- but usually I skip the vodka. Usually... ๐

Wait no, too fun! I love this. And I love how you got all the colors naturally through foods. Mmmm, this looks delicious!

These are seriously adorable, plus who doesn't like a little vodka in their drink? I also appreciate that you wouldn't have to clean the blender in between each flavor/layer if you make these in the order you listed - so smart!
Meme says
Thanks Dana!! No blender cleaning = awesome haha. Unnecessary cleaning is not for me, but vodka in my smoothies totally is ๐

Festive, creative & fun... no need for that artificial color nonsense!! Amazing work ๐

LOVE these layers - we can skip the booze and breakfast it up OR make it as written to party the night away, love it ๐
