    My Half Marathon Training

    Published: Jul 28, 2014 · Updated: Nov 23, 2019 · This post may contain affiliate links · This blog generates income via ads

    My birthday is tomorrow, and I signed up for two {!!!} half marathons for the month of November. {I've run one before in February of this year}

    half marathon

    Yes, I realize that might sound a little intense, but I would like to run one in under 2 hours {November 1st} and one for fun {November 23rd}.

    The Jazz Half is the first one and it raises money for The Cancer Program at Children's Hospital New Orleans.

    I decided it might be nice to break up my constant recipe posts with some more exercise related posts, so I'll be doing a weekly recap of my exercise goals for the week + what actually happened and a thing or two I learned along the way.

    I based it off the Runner's World Smart Coach training program and around my personal schedule.

    I broke it down into Easy Runs, Speed Workouts, and Long Runs.

    For the first few weeks, I'll just be running 3 days per week with other exercise in between runs - mostly walks and barre3.

    Monday will be an Easy Run at a comfortable pace. Wednesdays will be a speed workout. Saturday will be a Long Run.

    After a few weeks, I'll add in an extra Easy Run on Thursdays.

    I am traveling a lot in the next few months, so I'll likely rearrange the days I do the actual workouts on some weeks. But the workouts and mileage will roughly stay the same.

    Hopefully, I'll be able to complete a half in under 2 hours since I did my first one in 2:07 after only 4-6 weeks of training.

    I'd love to hear about your tips, suggestions, etc. when it comes to running and/or sticking to a training plan. And of course, I'll keep you posted weekly on how everything goes. Wish me luck!

    Have a great week!!

        You can do it Kathryn! Just make sure you don't overdo the training when you first start {that's what I did and got hurt}.
        Thanks for letting me know about the calendar. I forgot to make it public - oops! But it's fixed now 🙂
