A fun take on a classic pair, these fries are covered in all your favorite burger toppings. Great to serve to a crowd
Hamburger and fries. They're like the quintessential pair. I mean, who cares about peas & carrots when you can have a burger & fries?
Ok, maybe I like peas and carrots, but I have to admit that I like a hamburger & fries a lot more. So I made fries and covered them in all my favorite burger toppings, and we enjoyed every bite.
These Hamburger Fries are really similar to making nachos or messy fries and are equally as delicious.
While this recipe might look like it's labor-intensive, it's not (see the step by step photos above). You'll start by making the fries. While those are baking, you'll start cooking the ground beef & onions. Once the fries are ready, arrange them on the baking sheet & cover with ground beef. Then drizzle with sauce & cheese (if using) and bake. Once they come out of the oven, sprinkle with some lettuce & more sauce and enjoy!
Sooo good. So so good!
We could not get over how good these were!
My niece, just like her aunt, loves a good burger especially when fries are involved. She was super pumped when I told her we'd be making these and asked if she wanted to help.
She's a pro at making fries, so I had her help me with those while I cooked the ground beef & onions.
She also made the sauce by stirring together ketchup and mustard. Then she was in charge of sprinkling on the cheese then covering the hamburger fries with lettuce and pickles. If you're not a pickle fan, feel free to leave those off. Same with the cheese.
I guess my point in telling you all this is that these not a hard thing to make, and everyone will love you for making these Hamburger Fries.
I only made half a batch and instantly regretted it after taking my first fry off the baking sheet. Don't make my mistake. You can always have leftovers; just reheat in the oven for the crispiest fries.
Make sure to leave the lettuce off until just before serving, though. But please don't skip the lettuce! These fries need that lettuce. Chopped tomatoes would also be a nice addition to these fries. Yay for extra veggies!
Basically, just top these fries with whatever you like on your burgers, and you're good to go!
If you're looking for a fun switch up for your regular burger meal, I highly suggest making these Hamburger Fries!
Hamburger Fries
Ingredients
- 2 pounds potatoes about 4 potatoes
- 2 tablespoon oil avocado oil
- ยผ teaspoon salt
- 1 pound ground beef
- 2 medium onions 2.5 cups, diced
- 10 tablespoons ketchup (ยฝ cup + 2 TBSP)
- ยผ cup mustard
- 4 ounces cheese 1 cup, shredded
- 4 cups lettuce
- 1 pickle optional, sliced
Instructions
Make the fries:
- Fill a bowl with ice water. Slice the potatoes into sticks or wedges. As you are cutting, put the cut potatoes into a bowl of ice cold water. Once all the potatoes are cut, rinse them and cover them with fresh cold water. Let them sit in the water for at least 10 minutes.
- Put a large baking sheet (lined with foil for easier cleanup) in the oven and preheat the oven to 450°F.
- Drain potatoes and dry them very well. Dry out the bowl. Toss the {very well dried} potatoes with the oil and salt in the dry bowl.
- Carefully take the baking sheet out of the oven {it will be hot!}, and put the potatoes on it in a single layer. Put in the oven and bake for 15 minutes. Take out and stir potatoes, making sure to get them back in a single layer on the baking sheet. Put back in the oven for 12-15 minutes until the potatoes are lightly browned and crispy.
Prepare the hamburger fries:
- Meanwhile, add the ground beef and onions to a large skillet. Cook over medium-high heat, stirring while breaking up the ground beef, until the beef is done. Drain off any grease and set aside.
- Once the potatoes are cooked, arrange them on the baking sheet so the potatoes are very close together. Top with the ground beef mixture.
- Stir together the ketchup & mustard. Drizzle the mixture over the ground beef covered potatoes, reserving 2 tablespoons. Sprinkle with cheese if using.
- Transfer to oven and bake for 10 minutes, until cheese has melted. Remove from oven and let sit for at least 5 minutes. Sprinkle with lettuce and pickle slices if using. Enjoy!
