    About Air Fryer Breakfast Sausage

This Air Fryer Breakfast Sausage recipe is based on my recipe for low sodium sausage, which can be cooked in the skillet, oven, or air fryer.

Dedicated to the air fryer method of making homemade sausage patties, this post also has all the details for how to make frozen air fryer sausage and reheat it in the air fryer.

You'll love this easy recipe with simple ingredients that's great for meal prep. Plus, in the air fryer, it takes even less time to cook than the oven.

    Ingredients

Ground Meat: Lean ground turkey is what I typically use, but ground chicken, ground pork, and ground beef will all work well. A combo of ground meats can also be used.

Maple syrup: Maple syrup adds depth of flavor to the sausage breakfast patties with a touch of sweetness, but it's optional. Use 100% real maple syrup for the best flavor. Brown sugar can be used or omit the maple syrup entirely.

Spices: For seasoning, combine garlic powder, ground sage, ground thyme, cayenne pepper or red pepper flakes, nutmeg, and salt. Fennel seed can also be added, but I often forget it. Black pepper is another optional spice.

    Budget-Friendly Tips

    • Look at the price per ounce or pound on ground meat to get the best deal.
    • Buy larger or "family-sized" containers of ground meat since they usually cost less per pound.
    • Frozen ground turkey can also be less expensive.
    • Freeze leftover ground turkey that you won't have time to cook to prevent food waste (which saves on your food budget as well). Or make Hoisin Ground Turkey Lettuce Wraps, Greek Quinoa Turkey Burgers, Turkey Meat Sauce and Spaghetti Squash, or Healthy Taco Casserole.

    Make-Ahead Ideas

This is perfect for making ahead. Simply prepare as directed, and store as directed here:

    Storage Suggestions

Store the cooked sausages in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 6 days or in the freezer for up to 6 weeks. I prefer to use a freezer bag so you can remove the excess air and prevent freezer burn.

    To reheat from fresh:

    • In the air fryer: Add sausage patties to the basket of the airfryer at 350°F and heat for 2-4 minutes until warmed through.
    • In the microwave: Place sausage on a microwave-safe plate, and heat for 30 seconds at 100% power. Flip and microwave for another 30-45 seconds until warm.
    • In a skillet: In a dry skillet over medium heat, place sausage patties and cook for about 3 minutes per side until warm.

    To reheat from frozen:

    • In the air fryer: Add sausage patties to the basket of the airfryer at 350°F and heat for 4-6 minutes until warmed through.
    • In the microwave: Place sausage on a microwave-safe plate, and heat for 45 seconds at 100% power. Flip and microwave for another 45-60 seconds until warm.
    • In a skillet: In a dry skillet over medium heat, place sausage patties and cook for about 3-5 minutes per side until warm.
